It’s been a while since we did a style board, due in part to taking a much-needed break from everything for the entire summer. It was a rest that was extremely needed due to our super-hectic schedules. We’re back from our sabbatical and in addition to catching up on our missed correspondance, we’re also catchinig up with our back episodes of “My Fair Wedding“.

For this episode, the ever-awesome, Mr. David Tutera brought a modern-day spin to his bride Sno E’s big day (yes, it’s her real name).  Poor Sno wanted to have a wedding that was inspired by her name and the fact that her parents named her after the iconic fairy tale heroine, but her efforts at putting together a wedding day worthy of a princess was coming up less than beautiful.

After taking a hard look at everything that she had tried to compose, David reached into his impressive bag of tricks and put together a completely gorgeous event that was fresh, modern and elegant while still paying homage to her namesake and her overall vision. With that in mind, we came up with some accessible options for today’s bride on a budget. With soft canary yellow bridesmaids’ dresses; a tasty gourmet menu; and even a candy apple / caramel apple bar for your guests to make their own favors, you’ll have plenty of options that can easily be incorporated into any part of your day. With these ideas, you’ll find the inspiration and the vendors to help make your snow white-themed wedding a romantic and affordable event!

Our latest style board is inspired by  a past episode of “My Fair Wedding”, featuring the ever-impressive, Mr. David Tutera. For that episode’s challenge, he was faced with the task of bringing his bride Monique’s butterfly and rainbows-inspired wedding from the kindergarten-esque turn it was heading into a more sedate and elegant affair. Now, while the concept of having butterflies as a main wedding theme is absolutely fabulous, it’s also a theme that can go from glam to kitschy in the blink of an eye, mostly because there is just SO much stuff out there that’s butterfly-themed that one can truly go overboard without even trying to do so.

The trick to making a butterfly-themed event an elegant success is to play up the delicate nature of the butterfly, but to do so with a light touch and don’t give in to the temptation to get too heavy-handed. You don’t have to have everything completely smothered in butterflies. Try looking at some of the colors and using those along with the images of the butterflies so that you end up with a more cohesive palette. You can also play up the spring/butterfly theme in your menu, such as with the starter of rainbow chard or having the cotton candy martini as a signature drink.

Taking a cue from Mr. David, we decided to see how well we could come up with a butterfly/sky themed idea board and we think we did pretty darn well, if we may say so! {Patting ourselves on the backs}. Here’s some of our selections to work into your special event as well as where to find them on the web! We know you’ll have a ton of fun putting your butterfly party together!

"I Fall For You" style board; Designed by Two Chic Chicks

"I Fall For You" style board; Designed by Two Chic Chicks. March 2012.

Fall is one of our favorite times of  the year. The colors are vibrant, the air is crisp and if you reside  in someplace that gets a good amount of heat annually (like Texas, for instance), fall can be the perfect time of the year to host an outdoor fete because it’s not too hot nor is it too cold to have your guests mingle around outside.

The vibrancy of the shades during fall lends itself to a full display of colors that are on fire with their intensity – a palette of reds, coppers, golds and oranges justy waiting to be trabsformed into a nature-inspired event that will delight you and your guests with equal fervor.

To set the tone of a fall-themed wedding, make sure that you send out the perfect invitation. The one we chose is a foldover design with an espresso envelope, ivory invitation and an elegantly embossed brocade design in tangerine (this year’s “IT” color, by the way). The tone is set further with perfectly coordinating attire for the bridal party; a haute couture – yet totally affordable – wedding gown that’s stunning on both a runway and in an outdoor wedding; glitzy accessories; a birch “bark” wedding cake; and lavish, fall fabulous decorations which can include rented birch trees (if the budget allows, of course). For the reception, bring the fall theme to the table with seasonally-inspired edibles such as a blood orange salad and an apple-based signature cocktail and end the evening with maple syrup favors for your guests!

June Bonus Style Board: "Lemon-Lime Time"

Our June bonus board is inspired by Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation, a 501c non-profit organization dedicated to helping find a cure for childhood cancer. It was first started by Alexandra Scott (1996 – 2004), a little girl who was diagnosed with neuroblastoma – a childhood cancer and since its induction has not only spread awareness of the various forms of childhood cancers that affected millions of children every year, but has also raised more than $40 million dollars in funds to help find a cure.

We decided to do a bonus styleboard this month to not only highlight the various stylish items and looks that can be achieved using a lemon and lime palette, but to also help spread the word on Alex’s Foundation.

Instead of a cash bar at your event, try holding a lemonade-themed drink bar with a Tip Jar for donations. All the tips collected would then go as a charitable contribution on the behalf of your guests towards Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation! To learn more about Alex’s Cause, click the banner below.

Have fun planning your lemon-lime themed event!

June Where to Buy List : "Surf & Sand"

Tablescapes, Decor & Favors:

We chose the tablescape by Martha Stewart for its elegant, yet beachy, feel. The red coral (or painted manzanita branches, if coral is unavailable) adds just a hint of extra color while the brown sets a glamorous tone. Add an assortment of sea shells, cattleya orchids and light blue candles [set in sand-filled glass globes] to punch up the tablescape, while cream-colored china finishes off the look. to really push the elegance factor, a capiz shell curtain adds just the right touch when draped from the ceilings.

To view the inspiration table and see the list of suggested tablescape items, go to: http://www.marthastewartweddings.com/photogallery/non-floral-centerpieces#slide_12

For the favors, we also turned to the incomparable Martha Stewart for inspiration and knew we’d struck gold when we saw the tiny sandpails filled with rock candy “rocks”! It’s such a simple – yet fun – touch that you and your attendants can easily make for your event. The tags are easy to do on a printer (the wording is “A pail of sweet treats”), then you cut out the strips and wrap them around the pail’s handle, and secure with double-sided tape. Fill with candy and set in a flat tray with turbinado sugar “sand”.

To view the instructions, go to: http://www.marthastewartweddings.com/photogallery/candy-favor-ideas#slide_10

For the rock candy, we suggest the following confectioner: http://www.charlieschocolatefactory.com.  Or if you’d like, you can fill the tiny pails with chocolate seashells. We found the perfect seller on Etsy to buy your custom seashells from: http://www.etsy.com/shop/sweetleslie540?ref=seller_info

The chuppah is inspired by one that was featured on the South Florida Wedding Designs site. They used bamboo poles to form the basic frame, then draped opaque chiffon over the tops and down the sides. The tiebacks are clusters of flowers and greenery and there is a beautiful floral arrangement adorning the bower. It’s the perfect setting for saying your vows!
